Ken Bastida POTRERO, San Diego County (CBS 5) ―

Blackwater, it's a name that has been tarnished in Iraq and here in America. A federal grand jury is now investigating the security firm's guards over the deaths of Iraqi civilians.

But Blackwater is under the microscope for something it plans to do in Southern California. The private security firm wants to open a training center on 824 acres of land in San Diego County. The proposed facility is less than 10 miles from the Mexican border.

The company is locked in a struggle with the residents of the ranching community of Potrero. Blackwater's controversial work in war zones such as Iraq has helped spark protests from neighbors.
