NEWS

Kayla Occupysandiego Anna Ward just reported...
San Diego Civic Center / Freedom Plaza:
SDPD officer stated that the directive given to them today is that NOTHING can be set on the ground. Even if its right next to you, and no warnings will be given. "Pro-active" arrests will be done. This directive comes from the "top". We were told to contact Asst police chief Boyd Long -who is on vacation- if we object. Yet... the police are not harassing citizens who are not occupiers and set items on the ground there.

THIS IS IMPORTANT because it means we should likely resubmit the TRO for review. The Police are going way overboard on this!

Kali Katt
they just arrested hex and british will and some other people ... for picking stuff up off the ground

From the Facebook thread on the media committee, specifically the idea that surfaced from a rogue media group to hire out the creation of a new web site
Rev. David Miller

My Occupy Wish For The New Year (as posted specifically for the Occupy San Diego Facebook page, but meant in general for the Occupy Movement)

I guess I have to admit that I have been doing more Facebook lurking then participating lately. The end of the year is a busy time for ministers, even as a Unitarian Universalist. In my Facebook lurking I have to say that it has made me sad, (can’t think of another word) to watch some of the banter going back and forth about various subjects, especially the media committee.

I have known from the very beginning that there would be conflict in this group as there would be in any group of human beings attempting to work together to accomplish any tasks, especially changing the world. Aside from what we bring as individuals, in San Diego there have been groups that fall into loose or more clearly defined categories such as the medical marijuana folks, the long term activists, the clean elections folks, those who have found themselves living on our streets for more reasons than we can recount and many others. As noble as all of these causes may be, folding into a movement of global change was never going to be easy and frankly, I am amazed at how successful things have been in many ways.

As I and many others have said, this is really just the beginning and we will all find out how things evolve as they do. What I have been thinking about is the question, how can we continue to facilitate the change in the world we wish to see and not tear ourselves apart in the process? The answer that I have come up with, and I believe was in the original design of the Occupy Movement, is that we have to be constantly vigilant about the process. What I mean about that is not the hand signals, nor what is a block vs. a hard-block, or whether GA starts at a specific time, but whether we are working together for the common good. That may mean invoking useful, fair and generally agreed upon boundaries. That may mean practicing patience, kindness, respect, and clear communication. And perhaps above all, trying to do this in a way where although not everyone will get what they want, the core of who we are and what we want to be, is well served.

There is no specific roadmap or plan that we can slap down on the table to follow. Although similar in many ways to previous movements of change, this is very different in others. Everyone involved cares deeply. Everyone involved has ideas of what this is supposed to look like. Everyone involved hopes for a more loving and just world. These are wonderful things. So as we look to the New Year, I pose another question, what is the best possible way for us to work together, through all these differences, without a clear roadmap, to help co-create a world where we all may not get exactly what we want, but at its core holds the values that we all hold dear.

Here is what I have come up with. I have no great answers, but only a few thoughts to offer.

We must keep engaged and not let differences in our humanity pull us apart. We must assume good intentions, everyone is doing their best and those who have bad intentions will eventually become known. We must realize that we all have great ideas but they all can’t be implemented and sometimes they may not even be heard, which raises the thought that we try to support each other even when it is not our idea that is being implemented. And we must act from love and respect for the world we wish to see, in other words, really doing this, in words, deeds and in all of our actions.

One of the great frames of living I learned from a mentor of mine was, in every situation I try and think of “what is the most loving thing I can do right now.” It is a hell of a question to ask, especially in difficult situations. I would take that a step further and ask, what is the most loving, respectful, and gracious thing that I can do right now and beyond that, are my actions helping to build that new world or keep tearing down the old? I look at some of our Facebook discussions and I wonder if we kept this in the front of our minds, how would our interactions change?

I know that there have been conversations about the media committee here in San Diego and in general about how much we focus on police issues. And I know there is a great deal of disagreement on how to move forward, so I ask again, as we move forward into this new year, what is the best possible way for us to work together, through all these differences, without a clear roadmap, to help co-create a world where we all may not get exactly what we want, but at its core holds the values that we all hold dear? And, how do we make it a practice to be loving, respectful, and gracious to all and do things that build rather than teardown in everything that we do. I wish you all love and much happiness in the New Year.

  • 20 Mar 2012 - (1pm) Outside City Council 202 C Street -- The Mayor and his rich downtown cronies are at it once again, pushing a new deal at the 11th hour to give rich hoteliers the keys to the Convention Center and let them loot it for their own profit. The City Council has a chance to stop this brazen giveaway, and we're going to make sure they hear from the taxpayers who may be on the hook for the giant bill while the profits go to hoteliers. User's Tip

Since we get new subscribers every day much of the email blast will be the same as the last one. BUT, you can view JUST THE DIFFERENCES if you want to, so you can read it faster.
  1. Go to the web version of the email blast.
  2. Scroll to the bottom. Click "More Topic Actions"
  3. Go to the sections "Compare Revisions"
  4. Compare the current topic ("3" in this one) to 1 (which is the prior day's)
  5. Click COMPARE.
Notes:
  • This does not show some changes, like images, so you should scan the original email too.
  • At the bottom of the original topic, you can view any older version (click the numbers) or comparisons ("<") by clicking on the list. (Doesn't work for our case of comparing one day to the next because there are usually several revisions before the final one, so you have to use the "Compare Revisions" function.
