NEWS

  • IMPORTANT:
    • Please bring ready to eat food! Be creative -- simple to serve and easy to eat. This is critical that we support the hearty souls continuing to occupy the Civic Center area, despite the unreasonable rules of the city. PLEASE DELIVER to the food table at 3rd Ave at B St. -- you can park temporarily to drop this off!
      • They need snacks and other food types. You don't need to prepare a complete meal for 50, or anything like that to be appreciated!
      • I heard that many homeless persons that are finding themselves in a safe situation and with reliable food are starting to improve healthwise, thanks to Occupy San Diego.
      • Occupiers need: Cough drops / throat lozenges, Socks, a few more tarps (I understand more rain is expected on Friday).
    • DAYTIME OCCUPIERS WANTED! -- Daytime occupiers are as important as the brave souls sleeping on the ground at Occupy San Diego. Come on down to the Civic Center for an hour or two as often as you can. You matter--you are needed. If you wish, grab a piece of cardboard (and magic marker) and speak with your heart on it.
    • We are looking for video and or still pictures taken the night of the raid at Civic Center.
      • Please Email: osdraid10272011@yahoo.com
      • Please include your first name and last initial, and describe the vantage point where the video or picture was taken.

  • Occupy San Diego Protesters To Ask Court to Step In -- http://www.facebook.com/notes/canvass-for-a-cause/occupy-san-diego-lawsuit-and-press-conference/257723394276162 -- Attorneys representing protesters at Occupy San Diego held a press conference at Civic Center Plaza on Tuesday, November 8, 2011 at 11 a.m. announcing the upcoming filing of a request for a temporary restraining order and preliminary injunction against the City of San Diego / San Diego Police Department for suppressing and violating the First Amendment rights of Occupy San Diego protestors. (I shot some video which should be available tomorrow). Many news crews were there.

  • Occupy San Diego Facebook Page has been hacked -- but not by "Anonymous." It appears that the media team has figured out who the culprit is, and now we need to get control back to the page. I won't go into details here, other than to say that at least they know what happened.

  • National Occupy Conference Calls: There are weekly conference calls between Occupy sites. We need reps from appropriate committees to join in the conference call. Unfortunately, it is Monday at 7pm, our GA time.
    • http://bit.ly/vxlckr - Register in advance. Sign up with your name and city.
    • Get added to the National Contact List and register your contact info by writing to:occupycontactlist@gmail.com
    • Questions? Email: movementbuildingNY@gmail.com
    • Discussions -- select when you sign up.
      • Direct Action Working Groups coordination
      • Media Working Groups coordination
      • IT Working Groups coordination
      • Facilitation/General Assembly discussion
      • Emerging or Struggling Occupations support
    • We have room for 200 phone lines to join the conversation. If at all possible, it would be excellent for folk from the same occupation to join together and call in using one line, in order to maximize the number of occupations represented.
    • Please join the call no matter what stage or situation your occupation may be in at the moment. Have 5 people camping out? Great! We want to talk with you. Having GAs once a week with 100 people and not sure whether setting up an occupation is a wise investment of your resources? Super! Join the call. Recently raided, evicted and/or massively repressed by the police? That sucks. Call us and we’ll give you mad props, and ask to learn from your experiences.
      • Press #1 to get on Stack
      • Press #2 for a point of process
      • Press #3 to agree
      • Press #4 disagree, but agree to move on
      • Press #5 to show support
      • Press # 6 to hard block
      • Press #7 for a direct response
    • I did not make this call and I hope we can figure out who can be a regular call participant for our occupation. It is difficult because it is at our GA time.
    • Agenda will be sent around prior to the conference call.

  • General Assembly
    • Plan to get notes from the general assembly -- John Kenney will post his GA notes directly to the list serve as a separate email. He said he will be able to post one each night after the GA has completed.

Think Tank -- What do you think?

We need your participation in an effort to understand the general consensus of the group.
  • At this point, this will be progressed by using a set of Facebook polls. Other technology may be used in the future, but this will do for now.
  • Vote on one or more existing option or add one of your own. Also, remember to elaborate with your own personal comments. All out-of-the-box ideas are encouraged.

Food for Thought

How We Can Improve Communication
  • Be Curious and Open to Learning: Listen to and be open to hearing all points of view. Maintain a attitude of exploration and learning.
  • Balance Advocacy and Inquiry: Seek to learn and understand as much as you might want to persuade. Conversations are as much about listening as it is about talking.
  • Show Respect and Suspend Judgment: Setting judgments aside will enable you to learn from others and contribute to others experiencing being respected and appreciated.
  • Seek Alignment rather than Agreement: Alignment is shared intention, whereas agreement is having a shared belief or opinion.
  • Be Purposeful and to the Point: Notice if what you are conveying is or is not “on purpose” to the question at hand. Notice if you are making the same point more than once. Do your best to make your point quickly with honesty and depth.
  • Own and Guide the Conversation or Process: Take responsibility for the quality of your participation and the quality of the work conversations by noticing what’s happening and actively support getting yourself and others back “on purpose” when needed.
  • Be Excellent to Each other: Share what’s important to you. Speak authentically; from your personal and heart felt experience. Be considerate to others who are doing the same.

Editor's Note

I have received many thank yous for this daily email blast, I hope you agree it is a step forward in our communication infrastructure.
Please help me get the information for each daily email:

  • If you have media, like videos or photos or even a written account, please email it to me as quickly as you can.
  • I would like someone who is a Facebook regular to send me some links of interesting and relevant articles that are posted there. Contact me if you can do that.
  • I need at least one or two other people who can help publish the blast. contact me if you are interested: raylutz@citizensoversight.org

GOOD NEIGHBOR POLICY
To allow for a respectful and safe environment for our Occupy family, Occupy San Diego announces the following Good Neighbor Policy (similar to that adopted by Occupy Wall Street):
  • Zero tolerance for drugs or alcohol anywhere in the occupied space in Civic Center Plaza;
  • Zero tolerance for threats or acts of physical or sexual violence towards anyone;
  • Zero tolerance for abuse of personal or public property.
  • OSD will limit drumming on the site to between the hours of 11am and 5pm only.
  • OSD encourages all participants to respect health and sanitary regulations, and will direct all participants to respectfully utilize appropriate off-site sanitary facilities.
  • OSD will display signage and will try to have safety and/or community relations mediators in Civic Center, in order to ensure awareness of and respect for our guidelines and Good Neighbor Policy.
  • OSD will at all times have a community relations mediator on-site (to be appointed each day), to monitor and respond to community concerns and complaints.

User's Tip

Since we get new subscribers every day much of the email blast will be the same as the last one. BUT, you can view JUST THE DIFFERENCES if you want to, so you can read it faster.
  1. Go to the web version of the email blast.
  2. Scroll to the bottom. Click "More Topic Actions"
  3. Go to the sections "Compare Revisions"
  4. Compare the current topic ("3" in this one) to 1 (which is the prior day's)
  5. Click COMPARE.
Notes:
  • This does not show some changes, like images, so you should scan the original email too.
  • At the bottom of the original topic, you can view any older version (click the numbers) or comparisons ("<") by clicking on the list. (Doesn't work for our case of comparing one day to the next because there are usually several revisions before the final one, so you have to use the "Compare Revisions" function.
