OSD Fundraiser coming up on Jan 20, $5 cover

  • Occupy Congress Bus is enroute to D.C. to join Million Tent Protest on Jan 17.
    • OSD contingent were accepted on subsequent bus from Amarillo TX after being ejected by anti-occupy bus driver.
    • Post from Eugene Davidovich at 7pm on Jan 15: The Amarillo13 just left Memphis and are heading to Nashville. Should be there from 12:15am to 1:30am local time. Greyhound fed us sandwiches and chips! Nashville is next! Road2Congress all the way!
    • See this video of bus driver getting police to take activists off the bus.
    • Article with the best description of the event which clearly implies that they bus driver was new, and had only just seen the OSD activists getting on the bus, and then 5 minutes later, locked the bus for an hour (false imprisonment), called the police, and then had them ejected before taking off. Definitely a case of discrimination based on politics.
"At about 7:50pm thirteen Occupiers since named “The Amarillo 13” which were headed to Occupy Congress for the Jan. 17, 2012 event were kicked off the bus by the driver, Don Ainsworth. They apparently were boarding the bus and the driver noticed the Occupiers t-shirts and was rude to not only the Occupiers but also the other riders. They were on the bus for about 5 min. One of the Occupiers questioned why their bags were not loaded up and the bus driver told them to sit down and shut up. The driver then locked all the passengers including the Occupiers on the bus for over an hour until police arrived. The Occupiers and other riders were getting restless. The police arrived and attempted to negotiate with the driver to be reasonable to no avail. The driver only kicked off the thirteen occupiers and stated that “Occupy will not occupy this bus.” The driver also stated that Occupy was not wanted here or in D.C."
    • Call @greyhound: 1-800-231-2222. Driver name: Donald Ainsworth, bus no. 6252 license plate tx R24347 heading to Memphis, TN
    • Police apologized but said it was their policy. Many on the bus were sympathic. Vivian was not allowed to get her shoes or boots. A person on the bus said she would get them for her at the next stop.
    • Occupier on the ground who heard about the whole affair provided new shoes for Vivian at the next stop.
    • This sort of discrimination based on political views by Greyhound must stop.
    • Occupiers were interviewed by Channel 10 of Amarillo.
    • From Anonymous: Greyhound CEO: David S. Leach, wife: Margaret Ann Leach. (972) 899-3053. 2820 Merlins Rock Ln, Lewisville, TX 75056
    • OFFICIAL from Greyhound: If they get on the 5am bus, OSD will arrive in D.C. at 8:15PM on Jan 17. LATE.

  • Arrests At Balboa Theater 2012 Jan 11 -- This topic created to track arrests and progress fighting felony arrests at BalboaTheater
  • UPDATED Two items relevant to OSD mission were placed on the agenda of the City of San Diego Rules Committee. This committee is yet another example of a "do-nothing" committee because they hardly even treated the proposals as serious.

Unless noted, all events are at FreedomPlaza (AKA CivicCenterPlaza, 1200 3rd Ave. San Diego, Intersection of 3rd Ave. and B St.)
Unless otherwise noted, we meet daily as follows:
  • 4 pm -- Finance Committee Meeting, Downtown Johnny Brown's, Mon. thru Friday
    • Each committee should send a representative to this meeting! Budget is currently being defined.
  • 5:30 pm -- Committee meetings -- Each will schedule the days of their meetings.
  • 7pm -- General Assembly (Civic Center Plaza)

  • Concert fundraiser at World Beat Center featuring Liquid Blue on Jan 20. You know how great the last fundraiser concert was... this will be even better. $5 cover charge. See flier. All proceeds go to Occupy San Diego.
    • About 500 posters for this event have been printed! They are 18 X 24 full color and they look great. We don't have a lot of time to put these up. They can be picked up at FreedomPlaza Saturday between 10 and 12. (we can arrange other times this weekend also).

  • Feb 4 -- NEW Occupy San Diego County Strategy Meeting -- details TBD, OSD GA approved on 2012-01-07.
  • Feb 10,11,12 -- "Occupy" the Democratic State Convention in San Diego -- NO ACTION HAS BEEN APPROVED BY THE OSD GA YET.
