OSD Forks
  • There are two groups meeting which are forks from the original OSD.
  • Freedom Plaza had a good turnout at the recent GA on Saturday, 47 people, a bit increase from last weeks 8-10 people.
  • Childrens Park has had a consistently larger group of about 40 people or more. Had 50 attendees on Feb 28.
  • This MIC CHECK email blast does not play favorites and will try to provide information on both forks, and other non OSD events too.
  • Please check meeting locations carefully as previous information may be incorrect.
  • NEW See message from "Anonymous" here: http://pastebin.com/mSyPTXqg

Occupy Walk Walkers are staying at the house of a friend of Ray Lutz in Hemet, and food was brought over by Damian Tyron's mother. See the website above for a great update on their plans for the next few days.

San Onofre Nuclear Generating Station (SONGS)
  • NEW Event has been endorsed by the SD Sierra Club ConsCom.
  • Press Release on M11 San Onofre Protest sent to media and all lists Monday, Feb 20.
  • NEW A woman and a man from Fukushima have been confirmed for this event. This will make it extremely newsworthy -- you don't get visitors from Japan to tell their story very often.
  • NEW Mimi Kennedy, supporting actress in Academy Award nominee "Midnight in Paris" will be keynoting.
  • NEW Met with San Onofre State Park rangers and SONGS security. Rally site will be about 1/4 mile from the secure area of the plant, but it will be in full view. Rangers and security officers were very cooperative and helpful so far.
  • Fliers and posters are in hand! Please email osd-feedback@citizensoversight.org if you can help distribute flyers and put up posters.

Legal Hearings, etc.
  • Jury trial of Curtis Williams, aka Hex, is continuing in Dept 15 of San Diego Superior Court Wednesday, February 29, with defense starting their case promptly at 9am.
    • Hex was arrested during the Port Shutdown protest for crossing the street and faces a misdemeanor charge of Penal Code 148, resisting arrest or delaying/obstructing a peace officer.
    • Case continues Thursday at 9am in Dept.15.
    • Check the Facebook event for updates and to RSVP. The downtown criminal courthouse is located at 220 W. Broadway.
  • Benjamin Gasper's trial has been postponed to allow the defense to respond to new evidence brought forth by the prosecution. The newest court date is March 19th at 9:30 in department 50.
  • Fish's trial will be on March 22nd.

Media

2012 Mar01

Media: Occupy San Diego

Media: Occupy National and Global

  • Georgia Senate considers bill to criminalize union picketing Georgia already has some of the key anti-union laws that states like Wisconsin and Indiana have been fighting it out over in the past year. But that doesn't mean they can't try to pass even harsher anti-union laws. The state Senate is considering a bill that would basically make it illegal for unions to picket—or impossible for them to do so within tightened legal restrictions, anyway.

  • Exclusive: Homeland Security Kept Tabs on Occupy Wall Street The five-page report – contained in 5 million newly leaked documents examined by Rolling Stone in an investigative partnership with Wiki Leaks – goes on to sum up the history of Occupy Wall Street and assess its "impact" on everything from financial services to government facilities.

  • Bookmark the permalink. The Department of Homeland Security observed the Occupy Movement It is clear that this report prejudges a movement that has never committed itself to using violence to achieve political goals. Its commitment to non-violent methods is so unlike the official commitment to using violent methods when confronting the Occupy Movement. It is a well-established fact that law enforcement departments in numerous cities have used violent techniques to suppress the legal exercise of a citizen’s First Amendment rights. There are also reasons to believe that the Department of Homeland Security along with similar federal agencies coordinated the suppression of the Occupy Movement that occurred late last year. It is both ironic and unsurprising that the disorder surrounding the Occupy Movement originated mostly from the actions of the police.

  • To those who Occupy, we stand with you We, the Ben & Jerry’s Board of Directors, compelled by our personal convictions and our Company’s mission and values, wish to express our deepest admiration to all of you who have initiated the non-violent Occupy Wall Street Movement and to those around the country who have joined in solidarity

  • Utah asks for repeal of NDAA’s indefinite detention provisions Utah is now the latest state to draft legislation specifically condemning the provisions in the National Defense Authorization Act that allow the president to indefinitely detain American citizens without charge.
The Utah House is currently considering legislation that would publically put down Congress for drafting the National Defense Authorization Act for Fiscal Year 2012, or the NDAA. The United States House and Senate passed the NDAA late last year before sending it to the White House for President Barack Obama to approve on December 31, 2011.

  • Occupy DC protesters arrested outside Monsanto Occupy DC said 12 of its members were arrested Wednesday while protesting outside the offices of agriculture giant Monsanto as part of a national day to "shut down the corporations." The group was protesting in solidarity with Occupy Portland, which called for a national day of action to shut down corporations with ties to the American Legislative Exchange Council

  • VPF and Occupy the rise of the Occupy Movement, which is an expression of the frustration and the suffering resulting from the economic catastrophe, from its beginnings on Wall Street to an international movement with broad but inchoate aims has united those who ask for an end to war with those who ask for an end to inequality

POLICE COMPLAINTS

Have you been mistreated by the Police? Have your First Amendment rights been violated? Have you been arrested for nothing, only to have the charges "unfiled" but held over your head for up to a year?
  • NEW First read this document: http://www.2momslaw.com/police_misconduct.pdf
  • Make a Complaint: How to Make a Police Complaint
    • Use this form: Complaint Form
    • Forms also available in the lobby of City Hall.
    • Citizen's Review Board member says we do NOT need names & badge numbers. File the complaint & it's up to SDPD to determine who the officer was (But it is better if we have them, of course).
  • ALSO: By telephone or in writing to
    • SDPD Internal Affairs Unit, 1401 Broadway, MS 709, San Diego CA 92101, (619) 531-2801
    • Complaints made to the Citizens Review Board do not necessarily make it into the officers' personnel files
    • Read this: Making Police Compliants That Stick
  • Also, consider making a CLAIM against the city for your BOND money if charges were never filed. They have 45 days to reject the claim, then you file a lawsuit. It costs $400 to file unless you can claim low income.

  • NEW TELL POLICE HOW THEY ARE DOING: Police host monthly meetings in the community to get feedback from community members.

  • More on this project... Including collected media, documents, photos, videos, etc.
  • This is a VERY IMPORTANT project because we will directly engage wall street firms who own and operate the Civic Center Plaza office building.

  • What to say to cops if you're busted. What you say and do can hurt you in court -- This is what I advise my clients to say when confronted by a law enforcement officer: "Officer, please understand I refuse to talk with you until I consult with my attorney. I also refuse to consent to any search of these premises or any other premises under my control, or in which I have a possessory, proprietary, or privacy interest, including my car, my body, or effects. I hereby demand to immediately be allowed the reasonable opportunity to obtain the advice of my attorney by telephone. from: http://layon.net/busted.php
  • To check if someone is in jail check this website: http://apps.sdsheriff.net/wij/wij.aspx
    • It usually takes about 6 hours for someone who has been arrested to pop up here. This site will tell you their charges, bail, etc. Jail's number is (619) 615-2700. The jail won't tell you much if anything that is not on the website. Please check this website before saying someone is in or out of jail to avoid confusion.
  • FYI -- Penal Code 849.5. In any case in which a person is arrested and released and no accusatory pleading is filed charging him with an offense, any record of arrest of the person shall include a record of release. Thereafter, the arrest shall not be deemed an arrest, but a detention only.
