  • 24 Jan 2012 -- Important Citizens' Review Board of Police Practices at Pt. Loma Library. Very important meeting for us. Lots of time for public comment and to submit our complaints for them to process.

  • 26 Jan (7p) -- Voices of a Peoples History event at SanDiegoCityCollege - Saville Theater. This is the 100th anniversary of the San Diego Free Speech Fight, when city council prohibited soapbox oration centered at Fifth and E streets in the Stingaree District (Gaslamp). Prosecutors charged those arrested on felony charges of conspiracy, and police brutality was common. The Free Speech League sought to bring the cases up to jury trials to clog the system. There were an estimated 5,000 involved in one protest, with 41 arrested. The views of the Free Speech movement were similar to Occupy, on the wealth divide, worker’s rights and later on, First Amendment rights. The circumstances of the movement are echoed today. Vigilantes would take Wobblies trying to go south to San Diego off the trains.

  • Feb 10,11,12 -- "Occupy" the Democratic State Convention in San Diego -- NO ACTION HAS BEEN APPROVED BY THE OSD GA YET.
    • There are "tentative plans" for Occupy So Cal to be here on 2/11 or 12 as well, and it has shown up on in the GA minutes as well (info from John Kenney).

Raul, who has muscular dystrophy, requires 24/7 nursing care, but was denied assistance by the state’s program director even though a judge ruled he was eligible. Re: Jan 18 front page comment on Occupy Congress

It would be refreshing if this paper would report the facts of what they print or even better a positive story in regard to Occupy San Diego. I just returned from Occupy Congress where a group of six women from Women Occupy San Diego met with eight legislators and/or staff. We went to discuss specific bills and issues and none of us were disruptive or arrested. We also expressed our dismay that legislators spend more time fundraising than they do listening to their constituents. We learned that not only does the 1% control Congress, but the children of the 1% employed on staff run the office making it difficult to get any constructive work done. All of the legislators we met with appreciated our visits and the fact that we had done our homework and came with specific goals. Most of the democrats we met with listened and expressed their support for the bills we discussed. However, the republicans only commented that they had a better solution, but could not tell us what that “solution” was.

They can talk and promise all they want, but actions speak louder than words.

Big news I just picked up a trophy for San Diego Veterans for Peace. We were placed in the education section and were awarded third place. The trophy is 32 inches high. Very nice. I will bring it to the next monthly meeting. So congratulations are again in order. Joe and Dave please get the out to the Occupy groups who marched with us. And thanks to those Quakers who also marched with us. I have to admit we were outstanding.

    • It usually takes about 6 hours for someone who has been arrested to pop up here. This site will tell you their charges, bail, etc. Jail's number is (619) 615-2700. The jail won't tell you much if anything that is not on the website. Please check this website before saying someone is in or out of jail to avoid confusion.
