Shut Down San Onofre
- Project landing web site: http://ShutDownSanOnofre.org
- 30-sec TV Spot Catch it on MSNBC. Thank you Friends of the Earth!
- On April 18th, Southern California Edison (SEC) admitted that Unit 2 had the same unusual wear as Unit 3 (the one the blew a tube) meaning it will be very difficult to turn on Unit 3 before understanding the problem, as had been suggested as one option by NRC Secretary Gregory Jaczko at the press conference.
- Regarding the press conference -- 20/20 hindsight says our action would have been better not at the San Onofre plant, but in the street outside the Doubletree Hotel where Chairman Jaczko already had all the media, and people could easily see, park, etc.
- New Facebook page: http://www.Facebook.com/ShutSongs <-- Please like it!
- Cities of Irvine and Solana Beach voted to shut down San Onofre. This needs to be on the agenda of all local cities.
From the protest at the Bilderberg Group (a secretive group of over 100 members of the 0.1%). Thanks to Barb Dunsmore
Trans-Pacific Partnership (TPP)
- TPP is a free trade agreement between Brunei, Chile, New Zealand, Singapore, Australia, Malaysia, Peru, United States, and Vietnam. The next and possibly final meeting will be here in San Diego from July 2 - July 10. The kickoff meeting will be at the Hilton Bayfront hotel on Harbor Drive adjacent to the southeast of the Convention Center. TPP is a secretive group designed to benefit the "stakeholders" and "partners" who participate in the TPP negotiations; actually it's being touted as a "job creator" when in reality it ships jobs out overseas. There are jobs created here as well but not enough to even make a blip on the unemployment charts, as the few jobs they actually do create in the U.S. are at upper management levels of multi-national corporations. Without citizen input or dissent, negotiators will be inclined to believe that the U.S. citizenry stands by them in these negotiations.

DeMaio, Filner head toward runoff DeMaio led the way with 32.1 percent of the vote and Filner finished a close second with 30.1 percent with all precincts reporting.
Political control of S.D. council may shift Political control of the San Diego City Council may shift after Tuesday's election as Republican Scott Sherman is poised to win a majority vote and bring the count of Democrats and Republicans to a four-four split heading into the November election.
A loss for labor:
Proposition A passes by wide margin Proposition A, a measure that would ban San Diego from using labor-friendly development contracts on city-funded projects, passed by a wide margin Tuesday, which could put San Diego at risk of losing hundreds of millions of dollars in state funds.
Pension reform scores big with voters Proposition B passes.
Proposition 8 same-sex marriage fight headed to U.S. Supreme Court A glimmer of politics showed through Tuesday (June 5) when the full Ninth Circuit U.S. Court of Appeals declined a request from supporters of California’s ban on same-sex marriage to review a circuit panel’s decision that Proposition 8 is unconstitutional.
First Circuit: DOMA unconstitutional; next stop: Supreme Court A unanimous three-judge panel of the First Circuit U.S. Court of Appeals ruled today (Thursday, May 31) that the core part of the Defense of Marriage Act, barring federal recognition of marriages of same-sex couples, is unconstitutional. An appeal of that decision is expected to be filed fairly quickly with the U.S. Supreme Court and is likely be before the high court this fall.
Analysis (from the Chicago Tribune): Lessons from the Wisconsin recall vote Gov. Scott Walker already had become a national hero to conservatives for his willingness to take on his state's powerful public employee unions. His victory making him the only governor in U.S. history to survive a recall will increase his stature even further.
Senate GOP blocks Democrats' equal pay bill Senate Republicans on Tuesday blocked a Democratic bill calling for equal pay in the workplace. But President Obama and his congressional allies aren't finished appealing to women on the No. 1 concern for all voters: the cash in their wallets on the heels of recession.
House GOP shoot down effort to insert LGBT protections in VAWA In a strict party line vote, Republicans on the U.S. House Judiciary Committee rejected three attempts Tuesday (May 7) to add protections for LGBT victims of domestic abuse in a bill to reauthorize the Violence Against Women Act.
THIS REPORT IS NO LONGER POSSIBLE, sorry. We are investigating other ways to provide such a valuable news extraction. The Union Tribune changed their site, probably to stymie our use in this manner!

OCH GA is at the Performance Annex in City Heights on Saturdays at 11am
They are working on a variety of projects that need numbers i.e. people (foreclosures, outreach, actions)
Such as that night they were coordinating with other groups to speak at the CRB meeting to Occupy the mic and talk about Police Brutality, unnecessary curfew enforcement, and the 90 day limit they have to fix their issues as a board
They can be connected with via FB, Twitter, and their site at http://occupycityheights.wordpress.com/
Talk arose of setting up carpooling
OSD Education
They are setting up a "Free University" to have teach-ins regularly talking about a variety of issues
TPP, Fukushima, SONGS, Sustainability, Life Skills
They meet Mondays at 6pm at 6th and A (in the Mexican Restaurant)
Occupy Our Arts
It's Saturday, June 9th, at Freedom Plaza (they have permits)
They are going to have artists, dancers, bands, spoken word, etc. Also, reclaiming the Wishing Tree.
OSD GA will be at Freedom Plaza from 4 to 6 to talk about "How art has been a part of Occupy"

Any presenter or volunteer should review the Peace Monitor guidelines
At noon, there will be a special presentation... don't miss it!
Agenda Items
Trans Pacific Parnetship - Call to Action: CONSENSED
The TPP Committee explained how TPP is a free trade agreement like NAFTA but worse and for the Pacific Rim
The Call to Action was read, and is being released to Enviromental groups, activist groups, unions, and coalitions around SD
They meet on Fridays, talk to James or Carlos about time and lcoation
They imagine a mutli-pronged march to start from various points in San Diego and converge downtown, as the location of the talks are secret
The following big event would be a counter conference, inviting the community to learn and talk about the effects TPP will have
However, there will be mutliple events all week, July 2nd - 10th, inspired by the efforts of OWS and Occupy Dallas in their TPP actions
OCH has already endorsed, as well as contacts throughout SD
Education will be key, the direct effects must be highlighted (jobs)
Securtiy culture is to be implemented, but it must be a transparent action
"Don't Talk about anything, don't even joke!" Pat reviewed security culture and how not to say things off hand that can get you in trouble later
Autonomous Actions are not frowned upon, but be careful and smart
Citizens Review Board - Call to Endorse: CONSENSED
Occupy the ineffective CBR, every 4th Tueday, 6 to 8 in Point Loma
OCH is heading over there after GA with variety of other members of local groups to discuss at the Open Comments Police Brutality, unnecessary curfew enforcement, and the 90 day limit they have to fix their issues as a board
This fight should not stop there, but head to the City Council and demand a Community Accountable Board
Bring it to the public, mobilize the masses, bring in victims to tell their stories, call the news and reporters.
Continue to urge suits to be filed, because Occupiers are winning case after case.
"Make a spectacle, just like the CBR is"
A class action lawsuit was in the works... let's ressurect it! File another! Only after individual cases are done.
Let's Occupy the CBR and let them know enough is enough!
Elections - Review
Matt understood the stance against, but wanted to discuss the election, Props specifically
He reviewed Prop 28 (Term Limits), Prop 29 (Cigarette Tax), Prop B (Pensions)
The conversation turned into a discussion on the fallability of voting machines
We discussed Dibold, the history of voting machines and personal experiences with shady dealings
We reviewed that California only has paper ballots, but need to move back to hand counting, not OCR
"If Voting worked, it would be illegal" - Emma Goldman
We discussed raising awareness of voting machine manipulation, and how we can manipulate back by writing in "We The People" or "No Confidence"
We concluded with agreeing the "voting" and "elections" topic was not Occupy, but the conversation on the manipulation of votes and the awareness of it by the people was
The Fed - Review
We discussed how the Fed was up for it's 100 Year Charter renrewal in 2013 and we should start spreading information to the public
We discussed the pros and cons of "Ending the Fed" and "Auditing the Fed", gold standard and it's modern complexities
"Only an Act of Congress can End the Fed"
An option is Public Banking, like in North Dakota - the only state not in defecit; 1780 PA had one

Talk to Ken about helping, a group can be formed
From Ken Brucker:
Action on the killing of Anastasio Hernandez-Rojas
Submitted by diegueno on Mon, 2012-06-04 15:20.

- OSD speaks at the Citizens Review Board of Police Practices on 1/24
Have you been mistreated by the Police? Have your First Amendment rights been violated? Have you been arrested for nothing, only to have the charges "unfiled" but held over your head for up to a year?
- First read this document: http://www.2momslaw.com/police_misconduct.pdf
- Make a Complaint: How to Make a Police Complaint
- Use this form: Complaint Form
- Forms also available in the lobby of City Hall.
- Citizen's Review Board member says we do NOT need names & badge numbers. File the complaint & it's up to SDPD to determine who the officer was (But it is better if we have them, of course).
- ALSO: By telephone or in writing to
- SDPD Internal Affairs Unit, 1401 Broadway, MS 709, San Diego CA 92101, (619) 531-2801
- Complaints made to the Citizens Review Board do not necessarily make it into the officers' personnel files
- Read this: Making Police Complaints That Stick
- Also, consider making a CLAIM against the city for your BOND money if charges were never filed. They have 45 days to reject the claim, then you file a lawsuit. It costs $400 to file unless you can claim low income.
- TELL POLICE HOW THEY ARE DOING: Police host monthly meetings in the community to get feedback from community members.
