NEWS
Occupy Walk
- Adam and Mikey have had all charges dropped against them, and are in Chicago in support of the NATO protesters who still sit in jail. The other walkers have gone up to Philadelphia for the Occupy National Gathering which runs June 30 - July 4
Shut Down San Onofre
- Please vote in the L.A. Times opinion poll on shutting down the plant permantly. Unions have been encouraging votes to get it back on line; thus the votes for shutting SONGS down are under 40%.
- Project landing web site: http://ShutDownSanOnofre.org
- 30-sec TV Spot Catch it on MSNBC. Thank you Friends of the Earth!
- On April 18th, Southern California Edison (SEC) admitted that Unit 2 had the same unusual wear as Unit 3 (the one the blew a tube) meaning it will be very difficult to turn on Unit 3 before understanding the problem, as had been suggested as one option by NRC Secretary Gregory Jaczko at the press conference.
- Regarding the press conference -- 20/20 hindsight says our action would have been better not at the San Onofre plant, but in the street outside the Doubletree Hotel where Chairman Jaczko already had all the media, and people could easily see, park, etc.
- New Facebook page: http://www.Facebook.com/ShutSongs <-- Please like it!
- Cities of Irvine and Solana Beach voted to shut down San Onofre. This needs to be on the agenda of all local cities.
Trans-Pacific Partnership (TPP)

- From Noam Chomsky (Contribution to Occupy San Diego on Free Trade Agreements when approached to being part of OSD Free Education Collective Counter-TPP Conference):
The words “free trade agreement” should bring to mind the response attributed to Gandhi when he was asked what he thought about western civilization: “it might be a good idea.” Same with “free trade agreements.” Maybe they would be a good idea, maybe not, but the question scarcely arises in the real world. What are called “free trade agreements” have only a limited relation to free trade, or even trade at all, and are certainly not agreements, at least if the people of a country are regarded as its citizens.
The FTAs are investor rights agreements, negotiated mostly in secret by representatives of transnational corporations and the few powerful states that cater to their interests. The public is largely excluded, and often opposed. The agreements include highly protectionist elements, such as the monopoly pricing rights that impose enormous costs on consumers and have no legitimate justification. They interpret “trade” to include actions internal to command economies, as when a giant corporation produces parts in Indiana, ships them to a subsidiary in Mexico for assembly, then sells the product in California, with each border crossing called “trade” — a very large component of world “trade.”
We did not call it “trade” when parts were produced in Leningrad, assembled in Poland, and sold in Moscow, all within the Soviet command economy. The concept of “trade” is further illuminated by events taking place right now. The World Bank has just ruled that the Canadian mining corporation Pacific Rim can proceed with its case against El Salvador for trying to preserve lands and communities from highly destructive gold mining. Under the investor rights agreements, the crime of imposing environmental constraints can be punished on the grounds that it harms potential profits.
Predatory corporations must be guaranteed the right to destroy for profit, whatever the human cost. That is only a tiny sample of what is called “trade,” a category designed, not surprisingly, to enhance the power and privilege of the designers. The public should be concerned, informed, and engaged.”
- Unfortunately for the over 7,000,000,000 "stakeholders" affected by TPP, the meat of the negotiations will occur behind closed doors, which mirrors the manner in which the corporations which aim to benefit the most from the negotiations do their business every day. It's what they know; it's what keeps them unaccountable to the rest of society. These 7,000,000,000 "stakeholders" world-wide will be affected by these negotiations, environmentally, economically, agriculturally, and politically. But negotiators will be beholden to the 1%; thus it will be to their benefit to make the most of this by rolling back workers rights, Internet freedom, environmental regulations, financial safeguards, limits to pharmaceutical patents, and the list goes on. Hundreds of corporate lobbyists will enjoy the advantage of having access to the negotiating documents that will simply not be available to the public. Recently a memorandum of understanding signed by parties which banned the release of the documents for four years after the agreement is reached was leaked.

TAKE ACTION
Things YOU can do right now to help.
From Barb Dunsmore:
I was working at RSF [Rancho Santa Fe] Farmer's Market today [Sunday, June 17th] and this band, The Yes Team, was playing. Really beautiful voices and nice music. I got the sense that they supported Occupy so I went up and talked to them. They played this Occupy song for me. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=swxTULI9-J8 Recorded on my phone so recording doesn't really do them justice, but they are really good. I asked them if they would ever be interested in playing for an Occupy fundraiser in the future and they all said an astounding YES! So please keep them in mind for any future events or fundraisers.
Here is their website: http://www.yesteamgo.com where you can see list of their scheduled events. They will be playing at The Wave House this Friday June 22nd and will be playing at Ocean Beach Street Fair next Saturday June 23rd so stop by and check them out if you have time.

ANNOUNCEMENTS

- Where we meet, how to recover confiscated property from the San Diego Police Department, information for people were arrested, etc.

LEGAL
POLICE COMPLAINTS
- OSD speaks at the Citizens Review Board of Police Practices on 1/24
Have you been mistreated by the Police? Have your First Amendment rights been violated? Have you been arrested for nothing, only to have the charges "unfiled" but held over your head for up to a year?
- First read this document: http://www.2momslaw.com/police_misconduct.pdf
- Make a Complaint: How to Make a Police Complaint
- Use this form: Complaint Form
- Forms also available in the lobby of City Hall.
- Citizen's Review Board member says we do NOT need names & badge numbers. File the complaint & it's up to SDPD to determine who the officer was (But it is better if we have them, of course).
- ALSO: By telephone or in writing to
- SDPD Internal Affairs Unit, 1401 Broadway, MS 709, San Diego CA 92101, (619) 531-2801
- Complaints made to the Citizens Review Board do not necessarily make it into the officers' personnel files
- Read this: Making Police Complaints That Stick
- Also, consider making a CLAIM against the city for your BOND money if charges were never filed. They have 45 days to reject the claim, then you file a lawsuit. It costs $400 to file unless you can claim low income.
- TELL POLICE HOW THEY ARE DOING: Police host monthly meetings in the community to get feedback from community members.
Lutz suing Civic Center Plaza building owners and operators Project Details
- More on this project... Including collected media, documents, photos, videos, etc.
- This is a VERY IMPORTANT project because we will directly engage wall street firms who own and operate the Civic Center Plaza office building.

- What to say to cops if you're busted. What you say and do can hurt you in court -- This is what I advise my clients to say when confronted by a law enforcement officer: "Officer, please understand I refuse to talk with you until I consult with my attorney. I also refuse to consent to any search of these premises or any other premises under my control, or in which I have a possessory, proprietary, or privacy interest, including my car, my body, or effects. I hereby demand to immediately be allowed the reasonable opportunity to obtain the advice of my attorney by telephone. from: http://layon.net/busted.php
- To check if someone is in jail check this website: http://apps.sdsheriff.net/wij/wij.aspx
- It usually takes about 6 hours for someone who has been arrested to pop up here. This site will tell you their charges, bail, etc. Jail's number is (619) 615-2700. The jail won't tell you much if anything that is not on the website. Please check this website before saying someone is in or out of jail to avoid confusion.
- FYI -- Penal Code 849.5. In any case in which a person is arrested and released and no accusatory pleading is filed charging him with an offense, any record of arrest of the person shall include a record of release. Thereafter, the arrest shall not be deemed an arrest, but a detention only.
