Why?

  • The United States has far more guns per capita than any other country.
  • The United States also has the highest homicides and suicides using guns.
  • Most crime is committed with handguns and new ones.
  • Mass Shootings tend to use semi-automatic handguns and rifles with high-capacity magazines.
  • The second amendment is very clear that personal ownership of guns should be respected.
  • And there is good reason to allow people to own guns for personal protection.
  • But there must be a limit on the number and type of guns owned.
  • We do not propose a ban, but safe gun ownership.

The Proposal: ONE CITIZEN -- ONE VOTE -- ONE GUN

  • Each citizen has the right to own one conventional handgun, and up to three rifles suitable for sports hunting.
  • Semi-automatic and high-capacity magazine firearms cannot be sold to individuals.
  • No guns will be sold to anyone convicted of a violent crime, considered mentally ill, or a member of a terrorist group.
  • Gun collectors can obtain an exemption for historical gun collections.
  • All handguns must include
  • child-safety features to make the gun difficult or impossible for children to accidentally operate
  • "smart gun" technology, within three years, so that the gun can be used only by the registered owner.
