San Diego-based natural gas firm Sempra Energy's Costa Azul liquefied natural gas terminal on the west coast of Mexico will commence operations in April 2008, reports Bloomberg.

Bloomberg noted that the Sempra liquefied natural gas (LNG) facility will be the first LNG import terminal on the west coast of North America and the company has already bought two cargoes of LNG to start operations at the terminal.

The 145,000 cubic meters (cbm) capacity Bluesky LNG carrier is expected to be the first tanker to dock at the Costa Azul terminal, according to AISLive ship-tracking data. The larger capacity 210,00cbm Al Safiya is en route from Fujairah in the United Arab Emirates towards the Mexican northwest coast, reports the news source.

Sempra Energy's spokesman Art Larson was reported by Bloomberg as saying that the Mexican LNG facility is on track to be completed and will begin operations in the second quarter of 2008.
