Project Overview

This project is to fight against election scams bent on voter suppression. A number of the popular suppression schemes range from laws that suppress voters to schemes that rely on misinformation or actions by groups bent on purging voters.

1. Difficult voter registration.
2. Deadline for registration weeks before the election.
3. Purging voter registration lists based on the notion that voters are registered in multiple jurisdictions ("crosscheck")
4. Onerous ID requirements at the polls.
5. Intense provisional ballot screening.
6. Voters must vote at their home precinct.
7. Reduced or no early voting.
8. Long lines at precincts
9. Confusing ballot selection options, such as partisan vs. nonpartisan ballots.
10. Purging voter registration if voters do not vote often enough.
11. Confusing information about location of precincts.
12. Threats by groups at polling places
13. Early notification that the key races are already decided.

Key Approaches for Easy Voting

Same-Day Registration ("Election Day Registration" -- EDR)

Many of these schemes can be thwarted by a very simple change -- allowing same-day registration at polling places. Many states already support EDR, including California, which will be implementing the law passed years ago in upcoming elections, starting in 2017 and later.
