Summary

Ray Lutz of Citizens Oversight.org explains how to use a digital video camera to video record public meetings. Demonstration includes set-up of the tripod, use of wide-angle lens, loading tape, rewinding, start/stop recording, zoom, and controls of a Canon Optura 50 video camera. (Note, Ray no longer uses this camera. You should be able to record to your cell phone. If HD video is needed, Ray now uses a Canon Vixia HF10 camera, which uses flash memory to store videos which is much, much better! But this camera is already out of date.)

blip.tv no longer supports citizen activist videos! Use You Tube instead, which now accepts very long videos.

Finally, Ray demonstrates the set up of a wired lavalier microphone for recording higher-quality audio esp. for single speakers in large facilities where the internal microphone will pick up a lot of room noise.

This video is intended for people who are planning to use Ray's equipment and for others who may want to be citizen journalists. Please feel welcome to submit your journalism recordings to Citizens Oversight so we can include those into projects currently open, or into projects you may want to work on.
