El Cajon has a great concert theater but the city has had a very hard time managing it. Two times, they have let a private operator, Paul Russell of Christian Community Theater (CCT) to run the theater, but they do not know how to run roadshow "headliners" at the theater, and wind up running their own productions, which are funded by the student actors and their families. The theater was closed for up to two years as of the end of 2009, without any real plans. Now, the City is entertaining a $4.3 million renovation plan and to have the city run the theater, using a professional roadshow manager who would work for the city (probably the Rec. Dept.)
