OCCUPY CONGRESS

GREYHOUND BUS INCIDENT
  • Greyhound corporate has fired Don Ainsworth.
  • Comment by Alan Riner, one of the Amarillo 13:
Well my friends, I found out that Don Ainsworth was fired yesterday. I belive that the corporate machine fired Don to eliminate a much larger problem being brought to attention of the masses. Greyhound needs to take responsibility for the problem with drivers through education in areas like people skills training and anger management. I am angry that greyhound decided to handle the situation in this manner, and I Belive he should be rehired. When Don goes through the classes he should be reinstated. With the hard economic time in which we are faceing I as a person the whole hartedly belive that no one needs to loose their job and that is not or was not the intention. this is just my opinion....

SOPA/PIPA PROTEST, CONT.
  • This definitely got the message out...
  • PIPA and SOPA Co-Sponsors Abandon Bills -- "PIPA co-sponsor Florida Sen. Marco Rubio pulled his name from the bill Wednesday and SOPA co-sponsor Arizona Rep. Ben Quayle pulled his name Tuesday."
  • 10 reasons to fight SOPA - in case you need to learn about this.
  • This is a lesson in a protest that apparently has worked for now. Make a note of this.

LOOKING AHEAD
  • 26 Jan (7p) -- Voices of a Peoples History event at SanDiegoCityCollege - Saville Theater. This is the 100th anniversary of the San Diego Free Speech Fight, when city council prohibited soapbox oration centered at Fifth and E streets in the Stingaree District (Gaslamp). Prosecutors charged those arrested on felony charges of conspiracy, and police brutality was common. The Free Speech League sought to bring the cases up to jury trials to clog the system. There were an estimated 5,000 involved in one protest, with 41 arrested. The views of the Free Speech movement were similar to Occupy, on the wealth divide, worker’s rights and later on, First Amendment rights. The circumstances of the movement are echoed today. Vigilantes would take Wobblies trying to go south to San Diego off the trains.

  • Feb 4 -- NEW Occupy San Diego County Strategy Meeting -- details TBD, OSD GA approved on 2012-01-07.
  • Feb 10,11,12 -- "Occupy" the Democratic State Convention in San Diego -- NO ACTION HAS BEEN APPROVED BY THE OSD GA YET.
    • There are "tentative plans" for Occupy So Cal to be here on 2/11 or 12 as well, and it has shown up on in the GA minutes as well (info from John Kenney).
  • May 1 -- General Strike. INFO FROM OCCUPY SO CAL. NO APPROVAL OF OSD GA.

  • What to say to cops if you're busted. What you say and do can hurt you in court -- This is what I advise my clients to say when confronted by a law enforcement officer: "Officer, please understand I refuse to talk with you until I consult with my attorney. I also refuse to consent to any search of these premises or any other premises under my control, or in which I have a possessory, proprietary, or privacy interest, including my car, my body, or effects. I hereby demand to immediately be allowed the reasonable opportunity to obtain the advice of my attorney by telephone. from: http://layon.net/busted.php
  • To check if someone is in jail check this website: http://apps.sdsheriff.net/wij/wij.aspx
    • It usually takes about 6 hours for someone who has been arrested to pop up here. This site will tell you their charges, bail, etc. Jail's number is (619) 615-2700. The jail won't tell you much if anything that is not on the website. Please check this website before saying someone is in or out of jail to avoid confusion.
